All applications will be submitted to the Commission of License and Ordination for review and final approval. If an applicant does not pass the application process the applicant will be refunded the application fee.

Associate Chaplains

A-1)
The Associate Level Chaplain are classified as those who serve in ministry as deacons, church elders, ushers, pastors in training, ministry team leaders, street evangelism and visitation ministries, etc. Associate Chaplains are not officially considered clergy, but rather church leaders and ministry volunteers. Associate Chaplains do not possess pastoral or chaplaincy experience as well as Bible college or seminary training. While Associate Level ministers are allowed to represent Chaplains International, Inc. as chaplains in an official capacity, they are not bestowed with ecclesiastical authority such as performing marriages and other duties where public entities require the minister to be endorsed by their denomination or fellowship. Associate Level Chaplain credentials help to legitimize the person as a minister of the Gospel thus limiting the restrictions often faced by non-credentialed ministry leaders.

By-Passing  Associate Level Credentialing Process

Chaplain candidates may by-pass the Associate Level credentialing process and seek full ordination upon the recommendation of a senior pastor or an endorsed chaplain. A resume listing all current ministry activities including but not limited to the response to community services events and emergency situations must accompany the letter of recommendation. Once the letter of recommendation is received by the National Church Office, it will be submitted to the Commission of License and Ordination for review.

Professional Chaplains

A-2) Clergy that are currently working in ministry as a chaplain, in such a capacity as prison chaplain, law-enforcement chaplain, hospital chaplain, or church pastor may seek license and ordination with Chaplains International, Inc. Seminary graduates are also welcome to seek license and ordination as well.
B-2) Professional Clergy who are associated with non-denominational churches must hold credentials in accordance with the bylaws of their church. This would also include ministers of denominations or fellowships which allow their church to license their pastors.
C-2) Professional Chaplains will receive a certificate of appointment and a chaplain’s ID card. Official Chaplains International chaplain badges may be carried along with their chaplain’s credential. (Badges must be purchased separately) Professional Chaplains will be listed in our database of network chaplains for referral purposes.

Agreement

A-3) All Professional Chaplains and Associates must agree to continue to seek education and advancement in the area of crisis intervention and other types of training related to the field of chaplaincy when such training is available. Chaplains International is a Christian-based organization, which supports a statement of faith as listed on our website.

B-3) Chaplains International will not consider awarding credentials as Professional Chaplains to those who hold clergy credentials that are questionable.
Those who qualify and are seeking to be credentialed as a member of the clergy, and yet do not hold clergy credentials, may qualify for the position of Professional Chaplain if their education supports the position, which they seek. This includes Bible institutes, Bible college, or seminary.

C-3) Any chaplain who is caught misusing Chaplains International credentials in any manner, criminal or unprofessional, will have their membership terminated. All chaplains upon signing this form acknowledge and accept full responsibility for their actions, and release Chaplains International from all liability.

D-3) Candidates must understand that Chaplains International, Inc. is not a law enforcement agency, but a law enforcement support organization. Those members who are appointed chaplains with Chaplains International are not to use their credentials to acquire special privileges or consideration. Such actions will be a cause for termination. Chaplains are not to identify themselves as law-enforcement officers — such offenses can result in imprisonment and termination from Chaplains International. All members of Chaplains International are expected to conduct themselves in a manner becoming of any person who is serving in ministry.

E-3) Chaplains International does not discriminate against women who may choose to serve in the role of a chaplain. Chaplains International does not discriminate on the basis of race or color. All candidates are required to be in good standing with their local church and may be called upon from members within the network of Chaplains International to respond to a crisis as the need arises. Candidates will be required to provide Chaplains International with a statement of faith.

F-3) All chaplains are considered inter-denominational and are not to use their credentials for the purpose of proselytizing unless invited to do so by the person to whom they're ministering too.
